Basic Fire Cider Recipe + Fall Diffuser Recipe
Fire cider is an herbal tonic used as a remedy for staying healthy in the winter months. Below I share a basic Fire Cider recipe and a Fall diffuser recipe to create a warm and comforting aroma.
Fire cider is a spicy infused vinegar made with potent herbs and plants that offer an array of immune boosting properties. This herbal tonic was made popular by herbalist Rosemary Gladstar and is used as an herbal remedy for fighting off sickness.
While there are many recipes for fire cider across the internet, the one I’m sharing is a basic recipe that can be customized all year long, depending on what’s in season.
Basic Fire Cider Recipe
Ingredients:
1 medium onion, chopped
4-6 garlic cloves, minced
4-6 tablespoons chopped ginger root¼ cup grated horseradish root
1-2 lemons, oranges or grapefruit, sliced
1-2 peppers, sliced or 1-2 tablespoons cayenne pepper powder
Herbs: oregano, thyme, rosemary
Apple cider vinegar, raw with the mother
Honey
Instructions:
Clean and sanitize a wide mouth quart mason jar.
Combine the onion, garlic, ginger, horseradish, citrus, peppers (if using) and herbs into the mason jar.
Cover the herbs with apple cider vinegar, making sure all the plants are submerged in the vinegar.
Top the jar with parchment paper or a coffee filter and secure with the lid.
Place the jar in a warm spot for 3-4 weeks.
Strain through a fine mesh strainer and add cayenne pepper and honey to taste.
